Hello, fellow watch enthusiasts. This is Bokey Watch Industry. We have been in the watch business at Zhanxi, Guangzhou for over a decade, offering professional and reliable services, including custom assembly, gold plating, and diamond setting!
Friends who love Rolex know that Rolex’s 3235 movement is widely used in the brand’s watches, such as those in the Submariner, Datejust, and Yacht-Master series. These models are very popular among Rolex fans, with a huge overall market demand.
Therefore, in Guangzhou’s Zhanxi Watch City, to pursue the authenticity of the entire watch, domestic movement factories have replicated the 3235 movement with a 1:1 mold, launching domestic 3235 movements. Currently, the two generally recognized best ones in the market are the Dandong 3235 and Shanghai 3235 movements. However, many watch enthusiasts often want to learn how to distinguish between these two 3235 movements. Below, we will share some tips to teach you how to easily identify them.
The movement shown in the picture above is the Shanghai 3235, and the movement shown in the picture below is the Dandong 3235.
Next, let’s look at the difference between the two 3235 movements. At the balance spring, we can see that the two error adjustment studs of the Shanghai 3235 movement face the inside of the movement. In contrast, the two error adjustment studs of the Dandong 3235 movement face the outside of the movement. This is an obvious and simple way to distinguish them.
In fact, at the balance spring, both 3235 movements are different from the original version. Because the Rolex 3235 movement features a free-sprung balance with Microstella nuts, and its daily error adjustment is done by adjusting the micro-adjustment nuts on the balance wheel, as shown in the figure below:
In general, neither of these two 3235 movements can be said to be better or worse than the other. Based on our years of experience in dealing with watches, the stability and failure rate of the two movements are basically similar. Both are modeled after the genuine ones, and both movements are purchased and assembled by both VS Factory and C Factory. Previously, C Factory basically purchased Dandong 3235 movements, but later, many watch models were also equipped with the third-generation Shanghai 3235 movements. VS Factory, on the other hand, has always used Dandong 3235 movements. Both movements are designed with a 70-hour power reserve, and the overall reproduction accuracy of the movements reaches over 98%.
